Arts and Culture

The Arts - visual, music, dance and theater - are a vital part of Jewish life. The JCC presents and hosts arts and cultural programs that reflect, involve and enrich our community.

Art

The American Jewish Museum exhibits fine art and photography in the gallery spaces of the Irene Kaufmann Building and the Alex and Leona Robinson Building. Admission is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Art classes are offered through: Adult, Clubhouse, and Early Childhood departments.

Music

Concerts: The Y Music Society in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra present chamber concerts at the Katz Performing Arts Center in the Alex and Leona Robinson Building in Squirrel Hill, conveniently close to restaurants and free on-street parking. The Y Music Society has been presenting internationally famous musicians in recital concerts since its inception in 1926. Arthur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz, Beverly Sills, Pinchas Zukerman, Yitzhak Pearlman, Yo-Yo Ma and Renée Fleming are among the hundreds of world-class artists who have performed for the Y Music Society, one of the oldest recital series in the United States.

Classes: A comprehensive music conservatory program for all ages at the Anna L. Perlow School of Music in the Irene Kaufmann Building in Squirrel Hill is offered through City Music Center of Duquesne University (http://www.cmc.duq.edu). Children and adults can study a variety of instruments in private lessons as well as take classes in musicianship, Eurhythmics, voice training and music appreciation. Theater

The JCC works in partnership with the Jewish Theatre of Pittsburgh, (http://www.jewishtheatrepittsburgh.org) which consistently performs to rave reviews in the Katz Performing Arts Center in the Alex and Leona Robinson Building in Squirrel Hill.

Children get into the act with Elementary, Middle and High School Musical productions, also presented in the Katz Performing Arts Center. For details see our teenspace page.

Dance

Classes are offered for all ages.
