Emma Kaufmann CampSpecialty CampsAugust 6 - 12, 2007 For more information: Sam Bloom, Director
Stephanie Buzza, Administrative Coordinator These six-day camps for kids entering grades 3 through 10 are held concurrently at the end of the camp season. Each specialty camp involves the progressive learning and development of skills through the week, with many of the programs culminating in a special activity on the final day. Campers choose a focus area–Waterskiing, Outdoor Adventure, Tennis, Basketball, Soccer, Mountain Biking, Arts & Crafts, or Horseback Riding–and spend two to three hours each day in that pursuit. For the remainder of the day, campers participate in the other great activities offered at EKC. Water Ski CampCampers learn and perfect water skiing technique on Cheat Lake, with miles of open water. Campers of all ski levels benefit from our expert instruction. This program covers all the basics: from learning how to put on skis, to standing up behind the boat, and even learning a few tricks. Outdoor Adventure CampCampers build self-confidence and learn group cooperation while exploring nature and participating in activities on the High and Low Ropes Challenge Course. The course contain 24 elements. Campers climb, zip, jump and swing their way through the week on the Giant Boulder, Zip Line, Pamper Pole, Climbing Wall, Cargo Net, Vine Traverse, Giant's Ladder and Vertical Playground. All elements and equipment are inspected and certified each year. Each camper is required to wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes, and will be safely harnessed while participating in these activities. Certified climbing instructors supervise each element. Campers also participate in Teva (nature) and environmental programming. Basketball CampWith two outdoor courts and one indoor court, campers have ample space to perfect basketball skills with a mix of instruction and competitive games. Taught by expert coaches and instructors, the program allows each camper to polish jump shots, practice lay ups and learn the value of being part of a team. Tennis CampUsing our new grass tennis courts, this program nurtures self-confidence on and off the court. Whether it's perfecting a serve, hitting a forehand or practicing a backhand, kids have the opportunity to grow at their own pace. A mix of instruction, games and tournaments give each camper a well-rounded and fun tennis experience. Soccer CampExpert soccer instructors guide your child to play the world's most popular sport on our natural grass soccer field. From dribbling to shooting, each camper will become a more confident and knowledgeable soccer player. Mountain Biking CampThe nearby mountains of West Virginia have an extensive network of mountain biking trails. Under the direction of our mountain biking supervisor, campers will learn bike maintenance and how to navigate trails from novice to expert, and will take out-of-camp bike trips. Each camper is required to wear a helmet and closed-toe shoes while riding. Horseback Riding CampWith a stable of 18 to 20 horses, Horseback Riding Camp allows participants to learn proper riding technique on their own horse. Our instructors are fluent in both English and Western riding styles. In addition to riding, campers are taught stable maintenance and horse care techniques. From feeding the horses to adjusting their saddles, campers will see all the effort that goes into maintaining a stable. Ring activities and trail riding are a large component of this popular program. Arts & Crafts CampArts & Crafts Camp includes activities in several different areas including instructional drawing, mosaics, bead working, painting, leather working, woodworking and weaving. Campers sculpt and glaze their own ceramics in our pottery program. Performing arts activities and drama instruction also are part of this specialty camp. Campers are guided to discover new talents within themselves. Projects can be taken home to display for years to come.
