City Music Center

City Music Center at the Anna L. Perlow School of Music in the Kaufmann Building, 5738 Forbes Avenue, Squirrel Hill, provides music lessons to students of all ages. Students may start at any time during the year, and tuition is pro-rated accordingly. Financial assistance is available to JCC members.

The program is supported in part by a grant from the Anna L. and Benjamin Perlow Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation.

Private Lessons

Individual lessons are available in piano, violin, cello, voice, guitar, trumpet, flute and percussion.

Core Curriculum

Students enrolled for private lessons may take these core classes. Students may also register for classes only.

Primary Eurhythmics:

grades K-2
Take a deeper look at the
elements of music through movement, singing and improvisation.
Wednesdays
4-4:45 pm, Levinson Hall

Elementary Eurhythmics:

grades 3-5
Develop rhythmic unity between the eye, ear, mind and body through simple games and exercises.
Wednesdays
4:45-5:30 pm, Levinson Hall

Musicianship 1

Learn the basic vocabulary of sound and notation - how to read pitches and dynamic markings, how to keep a steady beat and how to perform melodic and rhythmic patterns.
Wednesdays
4-4:45 pm, Room 307

Musicianship 2

Learn to read and perform simple and complex rhythms; identify tonality, intervals and scales and root harmony; explore musical forms and styles of composition.
Wednesdays
4:45-5:30 pm, Room 307
