The following programs supported by the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging (ACAAA) are open to anyone who is 60 years of age and older and a resident of Allegheny County. A one-time registration for any or all of these programs can be completed in Room 201. Please bring a form of ID that includes your date of birth.

It's a Holiday Party!

ACAAA Programs

The following programs of the Allegheny County Area Agency on Aging (ACAAA) are open to anyone who is 60 years of age and older and a resident of Allegheny County. Lunch Program

The only kosher lunch site in the county. Reservations are required by 1 pm of the previous day and can be made by calling ext. 111.

Birthday Parties

Celebrate monthly lunchroom birthdays with a song, a sweet and good wishes.

Shabbat Celebration

Welcome the Sabbath in the lunchroom with singing and celebration. Fridays, noon

Legal Services

By appointment only. An attorney visits the JCC to assist with legal issues. Call Jeanne Ronschke, ext. 362, for an appointment on the second Friday of each month.

Transportation

Register for OPT/ACCESS, bus passes and Elder Express in Room 201. You must present a form of ID which indicates your date of birth.

Elder Express is supported in part by the Charles A. Brooks and Ann Cloyd Brooks Foundation and the Amelia Miles Foundation through the PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee.

Voter Registration

Register to vote, change your party or change your address with the Department of Elections in Room 201.

Special Events Registration

Any dinner or program that is co-sponsored by ACAAA requires a one time ACAAA registration. See Jeanne or in Room 201.

Senior Fitness

  • Strong Seniors Stay Young, strength-training class with light weights, Wednesdays, 10 am, $1/class.
  • T’ai Chi for Seniors, Wednesdays.

SilverSneakers®

This exercise program using hand-held weights, resistance bands and balls is free to seniors who use Highmark® Security Blue, Freedom Blue, or Medigap Blue as their insurance provider. Participants receive a general membership to the JCC which includes the walking track, pool, weight room, and general locker rooms. Advance registration required.

CheckMates
A program of AgeWell Pittsburgh

Do you know an older adult who would appreciate a friendly, weekly phone call? Confidential calls are made weekly by volunteers. Refer a loved one or friend who may be in need of a friendly call. Reach out and be a friend to older adults by volunteering to make reassurance calls. Contact Amy Gold, CheckMates Coordinator at (412)521-8011, EXT. 207 or agold@jccpgh.org

AgeWell Pittsburgh

Call (412) 422-0400. AgeWell Pittsburgh offers a one-stop resource that links older adults, their family members, friends and caregivers to solutions for issues related to aging:

Recreational, social and wellness activities • Geriatric assessment • Care management • Adult day services • Caregiver services • Assisted living, nursing, rehabilitation or other residential care options • Transportation—Elder Express • Lunch programs, food pantry or home-delivered meals • Counseling and support groups.

AgeWell Pittsburgh is a collaborative program of the Jewish Association on Aging, Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh and Jewish Family & Children’s Service.

Elder Express
Elder Express provides regularly scheduled van service to seniors ages 65+. A project of the United Jewish Federation Foundation and Ladies Hospital Aid Society. Register for Elder Express and buy ticket books at the JCC. Ride all day for $2. Now stops at Anathan Club and Carnegie Library. New Americans
The activities listed are expressly to aid senior adults from the former Soviet Union.

  • Russian Language Media: The New Russian Word (Novoye Russkoye Slovo) newspaper is available in the corridor outside the Adult Services Department. Supported in part by a grant from the Buncher Family Foundation.
  • Russian Language Library: A variety of Russian language books and publications are available to borrow, including many new books. Our library continues to grow. Liza Tuchinsky, Anna Kharitonov, and Yanna Mints, librarians. Supported in part by a grant from the Buncher Family Foundation. Mondays, 11 am-noon Wednesdays, 11 am-noon Thursdays, 5-6 pm
  • Supplemental English Tutoring: English tutoring for New Americans from the former Soviet Union, ages 65 and older. For proper placement level and class times or to volunteer, call (412) 521-8011, ext. 362. Supported in part by a grant from the Buncher Family Foundation.
Squirrel Hill Health Center

The Squirrel Hill Health Center provides all patients with equal access to quality care regardless of factors such as ability to pay, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, age, or gender.
