We are renovating the Annabelle Rubenstein Early Childhood Development Center this summer. The project will transform the learning environment to mesh with the JCC’s progressive educational philosophy for engaged learning.
Construction will begin on Monday, June 17 and will continue through the summer.
Architect Rothschild Doyno Collaborative has created an inspired design that embodies ECDC’s constructivist educational philosophy, drawn from the ideas and practices developed in Reggio Emilia, Italy, that consider the physical environment as a key element to learning through exploration and discovery.
The renewal of the ECDC facilities will greatly enhance children’s experience and education.
“Marking Time” Calendar Wall, with movable markers to denote Hebrew and Gregorian dates and Jewish holidays, and illustrated with imagery created by and for both children and adults
The Studio, an open work area with exposed ceiling and a Tree of Knowledge column
Hallways with new lockers and lighting to highlight extensive display panels for children’s artwork
New cabinets and fixtures, and distinctive features in each classroom.
The Philip Chosky Charitable and Educational Foundation provided the lead gift for the project, with significant support from The Beacon Foundation and The David S. and Karen A. Shapira Foundation. Additional support is being actively solicited.
