The JCC’s Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) provides a nurturing, creative and safe environment for young children age 6 weeks to five years old. Our child care and preschool programs offer flexible scheduling with extended day options, kindergarten enrichment and summer camps from 7 am to 6 pm every weekday.

ECDC’s curriculum is inspired by the ideas and practices developed in Reggio Emilia, Italy, for the education of young children. Their program--based on the principles of respect, responsibility and community through exploration and discovery in a supportive and enriching environment—resonates with the JCC mission to create an environment that strengthens the physical, intellectual and spiritual well being of individuals and families. ECDC’s curriculum recognizes each child’s voice and strives to provide a beautiful environment, small groups for children to do their work, and access to a wide variety of learning materials.

  • Escorts to extracurricular JCC classes
  • Enrichment for children in half-day kindergarten program

Children grow and thrive in our program

ECDC prepares children for the academic and life challenges ahead.  Enriched with language, reading, math, science, art, music and fun, we promote Jewish values, encourage children to appreciate diversity and provide an environment that promotes acceptance and a sense of belonging.

JCC specialists teach our aquatics and phys ed classes. ECDC is visited by a child therapist from Jewish Family & Children’s Service who supports our efforts to work with each child.

ECDC staff are caring educators with decades of professional experience. We provide ongoing training and maintain the highest standards in early childhood education.

Our center is housed in a secured dedicated wing of the JCC. Our program features access to the JCC’s indoor pool for swimming and the gymnasium and accessible outdoor playground for fitness activities and play. We also have access to the neighboring Scott Conservancy for nature and environmental programs.Children are served healthy kosher-style breakfasts, lunches and snacks.

Major funding for Early Childhood programming is provided by the Pittsburgh Jewish Pre-Kindergarten Educational Improvement Foundation of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh.
