Saturday, December 1
6-10 PM: Kids Nite Out


It’s a special Chanukah edition of Kids Nite Out (grades PreK-7). Dinner, swimming, arts & crafts, movies and snacks. Meet in Room 202. Register with

Thursday, December 6
11:30 AM: PJ Library Chanukah Storytime

We’ll read Chanukah books from PJ Library and get crafty in Family Place. Call Miriam Abramovich at ext. 398 to register.

7 PM: JCC Middle School Musical, Fiddler on the Roof, Jr.
The Philip Chosky Performing Arts Program at the JCC presents opening night of Fiddler on the Roof, Jr. Buy tickets at ext. 852 or lgrinstein@jccpgh.org.

Saturday, December 8
6:30 PM: First Night Walk ‘n Light

It’s the first night of Chanukah and we’ll kick it off with a community walk. Meet on Darlington Road between our two buildings; candle lighting will be at the JCC Menorah on Forbes Avenue. This year’s walk will be led by Pittsburgh middle -school youth groups and some very special guests—the Partnership 2Gether Boys Basketball team from Karmiel/Misgav in Israel. Stay afterwards for sufganiyot and hot chocolate.

Join JCC Little Champs basketball players, Diller Teen Fellows and the Partnership 2Gether Boys Basketball Team for the second night of candle lighting in the JCC Palm Court.

8 PM: Chooplah for Chanukah
Cheer on the JCC Varsity Boys Basketball team as they take on the Partnership2Gether team from the Karmiel/Misgav region in Israel. No charge.


Monday, December 10
4:30 PM: Story About Chanukah and Candle Lighting
Come to the JCC Palm Court and listen to Adi Snir, our Community Shlicha, tell a story about Chanukah and how it’s celebrated in Israel.

4:45-5:30 PM: S’More Fun with JCC Camps
Obstacle course fun in the Kaufmann Gym and your favorite camp snack before candle lighting. Be the first to hear about our 2013 Specialty Camps and new online registration for camp. Open to new and returning campers, grades K-5. Free and open to the community.

4:45-5:30 PM: Candle Making and Sufganiyot
The JCC Early Childhood Development Center will host in Levinson Hall. Come and enjoy a tasty Chanukah treat with us!

Wednesday, December 12
4 PM: My Baby & Me Chanukah Party
Moms and dads, bubbes and zaydes, babies and toddlers, put on your party attire and come for music, warm drinks, treats and glitzy crafts for the My Baby & Me Chanukah Party in Family Place. Call Miriam Abramovich at ext. 398 to register.

4:30 PM: Original Chanukah Shpiel by the Clubhouse Maccabees
Join the JCC Clubhouse After-School Program staff and kids for an original Chanukah shpiel in Levinson Hall. You won’t want to miss this tall tale.

Friday, December 14
5:45-7:30 PM: BYOKB Chanukah Family Shabbat Dinner
Bring your own kosher beer or wine and let’s celebrate with Kabbalat Shabbat, songs, crafts and a delicious buffet dinner. Parents, enjoy a glass of wine while the kids take part in relay races, tumbling, and other gym activities led by the Children’s Department staff. This program is geared for families with children 10 and under.

Saturday, December 15

4-5:30 PM: Got Shabbat?
Chanukah crafts, singing, snacks and Havdallah in Levinson Hall with JCC Jewish Educator Rabbi Donni Aaron. For families with children ages 8 and under. Advance registration is appreciated. Contact Meredith Brown, ext. 228, or MBrown@jccpgh.org.

5:30 PM: Final Candle Lighting
Say goodbye to Chanukah with the final candle lighting in the JCC Palm Court led by Rabbi Donni.

Monday, December 24
4-5:30 PM: PJ Library Storyland
Snacks, stories and crafts in Levinson Hall. Come in your PJs and bring a box of new crayons to donate for Mitzvah Day, December 25. This program is geared for families with children 8 and under but all are welcome.


Tuesday, December 25
Mitzvah Day and More at the JCC
Do a mitzvah with the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh Volunteer Center. Advance registration is required at www.jfedvolunteer.org. Families are welcome to drop in at any time.

  • 8-10:30 am: Light breakfast, Levinson Hall
  • 9-11 am: Sort & pack cleaning-kit bags for the American Red Cross, Room 204
  • 9-11 am: Make 500 PB&J sandwiches for those in need, Levinson Hall
  • 9-11 am: Write an inspirational note to a woman getting back on her feet, Room 202
  • 10 am-2 pm: Make a Sock Monkey for children; bring a pair of new socks, Levinson Hall
  • 8 am-6 pm: Open Swim and Gym, Kaufmann Gym
  • 9 am-2 pm: Register for any JCC Summer Camp 2013 and receive a FREE GIFT, Palm Court
  • 9:30-10 am and
  • 11-11:30 am Camp-themed PJ Library Storytime, Palm Court
  • 1-2 pm: Decorate a bandana, tie-dye a T-shirt (bring your own), build an edible campsite, Palm Court
