South Hills Locker Room Renovation Starts Soon!

Posted on Jan 2, 2014

Great news: We are planning a complete renovation of the locker rooms in our facility.  The locker rooms are 15 years old and have reached the end of their useful life.  Work is scheduled to begin on January 6, 2014.

Here is some information to guide you through the construction period:

·         The renovation is expected to take 12 weeks.

·         All areas outside of the locker rooms will be open and functioning as usual.

·         Improvements to the men’s and women’s locker rooms include replacing the floors, walls, ceilings, lighting, and benches.  Slip-resistant tiled floors, safety grab bars, HDPE lockers and bathing suit spinners are just some of the many planned upgrades to the locker rooms.

·         During the renovation, swimmers may change clothes in the lobby bathrooms or in the family bathroom on the pool deck.  There will not be a secured area for personal items, so swimmers should bring a bag to place on the pool deck while swimming and lock their valuables in their cars prior to entering the building.

The $500,000 project, announced by County Executive Richard Fitzgerald, is funded in part by a $250,000 grant from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and administered by Allegheny County Economic Development as well as by generous donations from supporters of the JCC.

A display will be set up in the lobby with samples of some of the materials that will be used in the renovation, as well as an architect’s rendering that gives a sense of how the renovated locker rooms will look. We will keep you updated on progress through emails and on our website, www.JCCPGH.org.

Watch for special events, including a re-opening celebration and some “surprises.”

We know you share our excitement about this significant improvement in our building.  If you have questions or comments about the renovation, please see Dan Garfinkel, Branch Director, or Frieda Lalli, Membership Director.
