Samuel M. Goldston Teen Philanthropy Project - B'nai Mitzvah Group Program (Grades 7 & 8)
Through innovative programming built on the principles of tzedakah and tikun olam, Jewish teens learn how to be responsible philanthropists. The teens become a community that learn about philanthropy and grant making, rooted in Jewish values. They explore the many ways non-profit agencies help make the world a better place, review grant proposals submitted by local, national and international organizations, and make site visits to agencies who have submitted grant proposals. The teens discuss funding priorities, and ultimately make allocation decisions based on the site visits and submitted grant proposals. There are also elements of team building, social action activities, and service learning opportunities involved. Participants each contribute $500 to the Teen Philanthropy Fund; which is matched dollar-for-dollar through the generosity of the Goldston Family.
The next cohort will begin meeting in the fall of 2014. For more information, questions or to register, please contact Meredith Brown at 412-697-3520.
